GAFFER'S THOUGHTS

Micky looking forward to Saturday's home game against Accrington Stanly

Micky Adams is expecting his side to come out nice and positive when they take on Accrington Stanley on Saturday (kick off 3.00pm)

He is expecting the visitors to park the bus and tighten right up at the back, but he is also aware of the problems Saturday’s visitors are more than capable of causing us.

Recalling our defeat back in August, the Vale boss said: “I remember the game we lost there at the beginning of the season - I am still shaking my head now.

“Their goalkeeper had a fantastic game that day and we could have kept going until now and I still don’t think we would have scored. We were very, very unfortunate to lose that game, so we owe them one in many respects.

“They are fighting for their lives, they went down to Plymouth last week and scrambled a nil-nil and could have won it at the end with a Beattie shot that Jake Cole in the Plymouth goal saved extremely well.

”I would expect them to make it really tight for us on Saturday. They will have a decent shape, they will get people behind the ball and the onus is always on us to go and attack.

“We are aware of that and what we don’t want to do is leave ourselves open by not using our brains and being professional about it.

“We will pick a side accordingly and, as I said, the onus is on us to go and attack them. What we have got to do is move the ball early, set a high tempo in the game and take our chances when they come along.”

The much travelled James Beattie will be the focus of the Accrington attack, but he is not the only player Vale will have to watch out for is they are to keep the visitors quiet.

“Beattie is the main focus of their attack and he has played at the top level. Having played for Stoke he will get a nice reception.

“He’s obviously the main threat, but they have got a lad called Boko who drops into the hole, who looks as though he can play a bit.

“They have got experience at the back with Winnard and they had Hunt there last week at right back but he came off with concussion so I am not sure how fit he is going to be.

“They have got a nice mix of youth and experience. It is always difficult for them trying to attract players to them.

“Whilst John Coleman and jimmy Bell were there I thought they played an attractive type of football that was a credit to them.

“I don’t think they have changed a great deal under Leam, but as I have said to my players, it’s about what we do.

“Teams around us have given us a helping hand in the last few weeks and all we have got to do is keep those points ticking over and being nice and positive and if we do that we don’t have to worry about anybody else doing us any sort of favours.”
