Dickinson: We'll Rally Around Page

Carl Dickinson says the squad will rally around Rob Page ahead of tomorrow's match.

Vale captain Carl Dickinson has admitted like everyone else at the club, he is astonished that Micky Adams resigned from the club yesterday, but knows that this is the biggest kick they’ll get to turn the form around.

He says that the team will now be behind Rob Page, who will take charge tomorrow at Vale Park when they face Barnsley.

Talking ahead of tomorrow’s clash, he said: “I’m gutted, he bought me to this club and made me captain so I’m astonished he’s gone.

“I know we haven’t been on good run of form, but I didn’t think he’d resign. I know there have been a few fans saying that, but for what he’s done for this club in the last five years, I think that’s a bit harsh.

“We have to remember that at the end of the day it’s the Gaffers decision, but we have to all stick together now.

“Page has got it at the moment, so we’ll give 100% for him like we did for Micky and go again tomorrow.”

Dickinson feels that everyone in the squad has been behind Rob Page as a part of Micky’s backroom staff, and will keep giving him that respect as the man to take them into tomorrow’s game against Barnsley and he is hoping for a longer period.

He believes that with a change in personnel they can turn their form around by all sticking together and hopefully give the fans something to be positive about.

He said: “We’ve always been behind Rob anyway, we’ve had a few tough results and a tough day today.

“But it’s all about sticking together, making sure we work hard and come out tomorrow and hopefully the fans can have a smile put back on their faces.

“The FA go on about wanting all these young managers coming through. Rob Page is young; why not give him the chance.

“However, that’s not down to the players I suppose, it’s down to the Chairman, but for us we are going to give 100% for Rob because he’d do the same for us.

“If we do that and take it out on the pitch then hopefully we can get a bit of luck and get a win on Saturday.”

Lastly, Carl has called on everyone at the club including the fans to rally around, turn up in numbers on Saturday and propel Vale into winning ways.

He explained: “We’re in a bit of a rut, but it’s the staff, the lads, the fans, it’s everyone not just the team, it’s a club.

“I hope all the fans turn up Saturday and get this place bouncing, because we need to come out, get a result and the fans can help with that.”
