Port Vale Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of 22-year-old forward Devante Rodney on a free transfer following the conclusion of his contract at Salford City.
Rodney has signed a three-year deal with the club, keeping him tied to Port Vale until June 2023.
A product of both the Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday academies, Rodney made his senior debut in football at Hartlepool United in 2017.
His impressive start to his career with the Pools earnt the 6’2” Rodney a move to Salford City in June 2018.
During his time at the Peninsula Stadium, Rodney helped the club achieve promotion into League Two, whilst also enjoying successful loans spells at Stockport County and two stints at Halifax Town.
He has made 100 senior league appearances throughout his career, scoring 19 goals in that time.
"John very much sees Devante as a player for now and the future, he's of a young age and just had a really good spell at Halifax - chipping in goals to help get them into a playoff position," said Chief Executive Colin Garlick.
"The gaffer likes the look of him and he's one that really fits into his plans going forward. John will want to kick him on and take him to that next level."
Our new signing is also expected to give current strikers Tom Pope and Mark Cullen added competition, with Colin Garlick further revealing: "We're looking to probably have 4 strikers - I think there will be another one to come. If you look at Devante he offers something completely different to those two. He's young and has a real good physique about him and has earnt his chance."
"That competition for places and additional youth and enthusiasm that he's going to bring will fit in ideally with where we're trying to go."
