Gaffer ready to forget the disappointment of two dropped points after late equaliser

Micky Adams paid tribute to supporters and to the effort his players put in at Spotland on Saturday and despite the disappointment of dropping two points, he says his team will be ready for the rest of the season.

The Vale boss said: “It was an emotional roller coaster at times – we got off to a decent start, I didn’t see any sort of threat coming our way.

“We dealt with their shape – Grimes in the hole – so there was nothing wrong with our shape and the way we were doing things.

“They are on a decent run of form so we knew it was going to be a difficult game, but the own goal wasn’t the best – I was disappointed with that, there was a lack of communication between Liam and Chris Neal.

the right manner and at half time I was reasonably pleased. “But what a response from us - we didn’t let that affect us, we responded in

“Liam will be disappointed with the own goal, but I thought defensively, him and Darren Purse were immense today.

“Whilst it was disappointing to give that late goal away, I thought it was a great effort from the boys.

“It is in our hands still, which is great. Teams have got an awful lot to do to catch us and the games are going very quickly and we are in a good position.”

Vale were backed by in the region of three thousand travelling fans and Micky and the team were more than grateful to see so many of their own from the Potteries.

Micky said: “Thanks to the magnificent support again today, I have got to mention them, I thought they were terrific and we will move on to the next game now.

Both Rotherham and Northampton play in mid-week, but regardless of those results, Vale will have to wait until Saturday at the earliest before they can confirm promotion.

if Vale fail to earn another point this season, but a win against Northampton will see Vale across the line. Both Burton Albion and Cheltenham can overtake them in the worst scenario,

Micky commented: “The season is about forty-six games and if you get your just rewards after forty-two, forty-three, forty-four or forty-six games it doesn’t really matter, I’m not bothered.

“We haven’t got enough points at the moment, but that could change because the onus is now on the teams who have got games coming up to go out and win them, and they have got some difficult games.

“We have put in a great effort again and we have really rolled our sleeves up and had a go.

“Should we have got the win? Yes, we could have done better on the goal, we could have closed them down quicker and stopped the cross from being put into the box.

“It was a free header and I am disappointed with that,, but we have defended very well and whether we have done enough to deserve the result, I am not too sure because I thought they were two evenly balanced sides – it is just key moments that seal games.

“I am always proud of my players when I see the effort and commitment they put in to a game of football to try and get a positive result and they tried their best to do that.

“They are disappointed, they’re a little bit flat, but it is my job to get them going again next week. It’s a big week, but if doesn’t happen next week, we will go on to the next one.”
