Neil Aspin insists his Port Vale team will not underestimate Forest Green Rovers when they travel to The New Lawn in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.
Having won promotion from the National League last season, Rovers currently lie bottom of the fourth tier in what is their debut season as a Football League side.
Vale go into the fixture having played three of the leading sides in the division over the festive period, but the manager is expecting another tough test.
“It will be no different to the Luton game because if we go to Forest Green and we don’t perform, we will lose,” Aspin said.
“I know the club well because of the non-league experience that I’ve got and it would be very disrespectful to not treat them in the same way we would Luton or any other team.
“The players have to be of the same mindset as myself. They’re all difficult games and I think Forest Green are going to bring in four or five players before Saturday so they’ll have a different team.
“They’ll be hoping that gives them new impetus to kick on so we’ve got to make sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves.”
Two men who could feature at the weekend are Chris Regis and new signing, Dior Angus - the striker joining the club from Redditch United earlier this week.
Both have trained with the squad and the manager has them available for selection should he need them, and he has provided an update on their progress.
He said: “Chris has obviously done a lot of training, but he’s not had a lot of game time, whereas Dior has had more match time, but at a much lower level.
“They’re both training this week and they’ll both come into consideration for the squad on Saturday.”
