Port Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick says he wants to repay the faith the club has shown in him after signing a new contract.
It was announced earlier today that the 22-year-old had put pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half-year deal which will keep him at Vale Park until 2018.
Alnwick originally joined the club in the summer after being released by Premier League side Newcastle United.
After a string of impressive performances, the shot-stopper admits there was interest from other clubs but he wanted to remain at Vale Park.
Speaking to Valiant PlayerHD he said: “It’s about pushing on now as well.
“I’ve got a longer term contract but it kind of means nothing If you’re not doing well so I’ve got to keep doing well.
“I spoke to my agent and there were a few clubs sniffing around but I feel like I owe it to Port Vale and I’m desperate to stay here.
“They’ve been good to me so it’s time for me to show the faith in them and it’s a longer term contract which is nice which is going to make me work even harder.”
This weekend Port Vale take on Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One action.
The game will see Jak come up against his older brother Ben, who plays in goal for Graham Westley’s side.
It’s something the Vale keeper is looking forward to although he insists he’s desperate to secure the three points first and foremost.
“It’s a bit of a weird one because you look at the table and both teams are doing all right, both teams want to win but you’re playing against your brother,” he explained.
“Ultimately I would take a one-nil win and for us both to do well. It’s a bit of a weird occasion.
“It’ll be a good day for the family. My dad usually goes to one game and then the other so for us both to be playing together it’s probably what he’s dreamt of.
“It’ll be a weird occasion but I’m going to treat as I would a normal game.”
