Local Primary Schools Take Part In Workshops At Vale Park
Over 150 children from ten local primary schools attended last week’s Able and Talented day in conjunction with Staffordshire University and they were joined by some first team players.
Altogether approximately 40 workshops were held geared towards challenging and informing the children about the value of higher education and work-related activities in the local area.
Vale’s Ryan Lloyd, Nathan Smith and Ryan Boot took time to go round the workshops, which were run by the university’s Forensic Science, IT, Archaeology and Sports Science departments as well as local businesses Staffordshire Creamware, KMF, The Clay Foundation, Haywood Hospital and H&R Johnson.
Secondary school students from Haywood Academy were also on hand to help the children access the various projects.
The management of the day involved using a large number of Vale Park’s rooms, showing the capacity available for large-scale events.
The club’s Head of Education, Chris Taylor, said: “We were very impressed with the ability of the children throughout the day and the interest they showed in a whole variety of work-related activities.
"We would like to thank the companies and university departments who gave up their time to facilitate the workshops throughout the day.
"All children will now be writing about their experiences and the club will be providing literacy prizes for the most descriptive accounts from every school who attended."
On the back of the Able and Talented day, Staffordshire University will be the match sponsors of Vale’s Sky Bet League One clash with Preston North End next month, when fans will be able to find out more about courses available for the next academic year.
