Striker Ben Williamson thinks that Vales time at HMS Raleigh last week was one of the hardest things he has ever done, especially the Navy training session they were put through on Friday with the Navy’s Physical Training Instructors giving the squad a “no holds barred” core workout throughout the afternoon.
He said: “Micky has got us doing some hard work. It was a really tough week and the weather didn't help at all.
“We had a Navy session on Friday afternoon. We’d been watching them all week thinking “we couldn't do that” and they definitely didn’t disappoint, putting us thoroughly through our paces. I’m pretty sure none of the boys have worked that hard before, but we got through it as a team and it was nice as a team bonding exercise.
“It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done and it’s fair to say there were some aching legs this weekend. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can cool it down a bit, ready for the first game of the season.”
Aug.thWilliamson added that every single player as expected is vying for one of the 11 starting spots on offer come the first game of the season against Walsall on the 9
He said: “I missed a couple of good chances on Saturday but then I put away probably the hardest chance of the game. I just need to keep scoring to keep myself in the Gaffer’s plans.
“I think all the boys are wanting to start and I'm no different so we’re all working hard for that aim, which will hopefully make the team perform better come the Walsall game.”
