James Wilson's second half penalty continued our 100% record at Vale Park as the Valiants picked up all three points.
The Valiants dominated the early stages with two early chances for James Wilson. The first coming on seven minutes following an Ethan Chislett corner aimed towards Nathan Smith who headed the ball down to Wilson but his shot just went over the bar.
Wilson tried his luck again just four minutes later with a header inside the area but again the ball flew over Carlisle’s bar.
The visitors grew into the game and had their first real opportunity on 18 minutes when Owen Moxon opened his body to shoot following a corner but his strike went wide of Connor Ripley’s goal.
United were having success at creating opportunities from set pieces. Luke Plange got his head to a free kick after 24 minutes but he could not direct it goal bound.
It took 34 minutes for Ripley to be tested and what a save it was. Former Valiant Callum Guy produced a powerful effort from 30-yards out but Ripley did excellently to parry the strike away from danger.
Carlisle continued to add pressure from set pieces. Moxon once again was causing problems but his hopeful overhead kick from inside the area went well wide.
But after the Valiants had soaked up all the pressure in the first half, it took only five minutes of the second to take the lead. A defensive error let Chislett run through on goal before he was taken out in the area by Carlisle keeper Jokull Andresson, who surprisingly went unpunished. Referee Tom Reeves had no choice but to point to the spot and Wilson made it two goals in two games as he calmly stuck the ball away.
Jack Armer had a great chance on 78 minutes as the ball dropped to him at the back post following a cross from the right but somehow from close range his half volley went wide of Ripley’s goal.
Carlisle came again a few minutes later, again a cross from the right but Moxon’s header was a tame one as it rolled out of play for a goal kick.
Six minutes of additional time was played but the Valiants never looked like conceding as all three points were claimed.
