Not only did Danny Butterworth bring up his first Port Vale goal on Saturday afternoon, but he also notched the 250th goal the Vale have scored in all competitions since Kevin and Carol Shanahan OBE saved the club in May 2019.
A TOM POPE penalty at Colchester United on 3 August 2019 kicked off the scoring under the Shanahans on the opening day of the 2019/20 season.
Five months later, DAVID AMOO’s late winner against Leyton Orient on 18 January 2020 was goal number 50, just 37 games into the Shanahan family’s ownership of the club.
The Shanahan family brought up their century almost a year later, following the early curtailment of the 2019/20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Goal number 100 was brought up behind closed doors as HARRY McKIRDY scored the opener in a 2-1 win over Wolves U21s in the Papa Johns Trophy.
Goal number 150 was one of the most memorable moments of the three-and-a-half years of the Shanahan family’s ownership as JAMIE PROCTOR fired in a 93rd minute winner against Leyton Orient at Vale Park on 2 October 2021.
Earlier in 2022, DAVID WORRALL brought up the double century, scoring the second in the Vale’s 4-1 win over Crawley Town at Vale Park, as the Vale kicked off a run of eight wins in nine matches on their way to securing promotion to League One.
Goal 250 came on 29 October 2022 as DANNY BUTTERWORTH sealed the points against Lincoln City to take the Vale into the top half of the League One table.
From Aaron Martin to Zak Mills, 47 different players have contributed to the 250, though 12 of the goals Vale have been scored have been by opposition players.
James Wilson (16) is the top goalscorer under the Shanahan family, with Tom Conlon (15) in second place. Ben Garrity, David Worrall, Devante Rodney, Jamie Proctor, Nathan Smith and Tom Pope all have 13!
Goal 250 came in the 177th match since the Shanahan family became custodians of Port Vale, in which time there have been 79 wins, 40 draws and 58 defeats.
