Ben Garrity and James Wilson get the goals to increase the winning run to three in West Yorkshire
An evenly-matched start to the game with neither side having a long spell of possession. It was the Valiants who had the first chance of the match through James Wilson. He cut in from the right and struck a low effort from the edge of the area which went wide of Alex Bass’ goal on seven minutes.
Both sides came into this clash having won their last two and the Bantams showed their confidence with a strike on 14 minutes. Dion Pereira ran into the area on the left side but pressure from Brad Walker meant his shot was fired wide.
Having scored seven in our last two we certainly knew where the net was. Walker was involved again on 24 minutes as he struck a 25-yard free-kick towards goal which Bass parried away for a corner.
David Worrall came agonisingly close to giving Vale the lead 11 minutes later. Some great work between him and James Wilson on the right flank led to Worrall having a brilliant chance from close range but he put his effort wide.
After a quiet first half, the second could not have started any better for the Valiants. Wilson won the ball back in Bradford’s penalty area and drilled a low ball back across goal which was initially blocked but Ben Garrity followed in from close range to put us in front five minutes into the second period.
14 minutes later the Valiants doubled their lead through Wilson. Jamie Proctor did well to out-muscle Yann Songo’o and allow the ball to bounce through to Wilson who made it 2-0 to Vale from a tight angle in the area.
On 66 minutes Harry Charsley came close to making it three but his shot from inside the area was saved well by Bass. Charles Vernam was introduced on 69 minutes and a minute later he pulled one back for the home side thanks to a fortunate deflection which beat Stone in goal.
The other Bradford substitute Jamie Walker came close to levelling the scores with a fierce strike from outside the area but his effort hit the side netting.
A barrage from the Bantams followed as they tried to force an equaliser but with no efforts on goal in the final moments, the Valiants hung onto the three points.
