A huge win for the Valiants with James Gibbons, James Wilson and Aaron Martin all scoring to make it five home wins in a row.
Four wins in four home games before today so it was safe to say the Valiants were in good form. James Gibbons had the first shot of the game four minutes in. He went high and wide from outside the area looking for the top right corner.
Three minutes later from the same angle but this time inside the box Gibbons went low and hard and beat Shamal George in goal as he found the bottom corner after being put through by Tom Conlon with a looping ball.
Dennis Politic earnt his first start in a Vale shirt after a run of impressive performances off the bench. He went in search of his third goal for the club as he cut inside from the left and fired a shot from 20-yards but George was equal to it, pushing it away before James Wilson had an effort saved on the rebound.
Jamie Proctor was out of the side again but the Valiants were not having any difficulty creating chances. Wilson doubled our lead in the 16th minute after some great work by Politic on the left, beating his man with ease getting into the area and playing the ball to Wilson who turned and hit a deflected effort into the bottom right corner.
The visitors created their first real chance through Freddie Sears after 29 minutes. He got through one on one with Lucas Covolan but Dan Jones’ pressure made Sears delay his shot which was well saved by the Brazilian who spread himself well. Four minutes later former Valiant Luke Hannant had his first attempt of the game. A free header at the back of the box but he put it well over the bar.
Brendan Wiredu had a great chance to make it 2-1 on 39 minutes, his header from close range went well wide of Lucas Covolan’s goal. Two minutes later Politic was in again after some sloppy play from Colchester but once again he had his shot saved from 20-yards.
The captain had been kept quiet after scoring on Tuesday night but he had his first chance on 43 minutes after a Jones long throw but his shot went wide.
Colchester came out the second half an improved side but still could not find the net. Noah Chilvers put a shot over the bar from just outside the area on 49 minutes. A minute later Hannant came close from inside the area as he went looking for the far corner but he also put his shot over the bar.
Devante Rodney tried a spectacular bicycle kick from inside the area but he could not get his effort on target on 55 minutes. Substitute Aaron Martin made it 3-0 on 62 minutes after meeting Tom Conlon’s corner with his boot which looped over George’s head.
Three minutes later Colchester defender Miles Welch-Hayes got a shot off 18-yards out but it was no trouble for Covolan as it rolled well wide. Jake Taylor went looking for a fourth on 77 minutes his curling effort from 20-yards out was saved by George and out for a corner which came to nothing.
Lewis Cass was inches away from getting his first Port Vale goal. He was played through into the area but his low driven shot went wide. No change to the score in stoppage time as the game stayed at 3-0, our biggest win of the season.
