Port Vale Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former Vale defender, Andy Higgins, at the age of 61.
Higgins started out at Chesterfield in 1978, staying with the club until the February of 1981 when he signed with Port Vale with manager John McGrath looking to add strength to a leaky defence.
Higgins played ten games in the 1980-81 season, helping Vale rise from the bottom of the Football League. Higgins played a further four
Fourth Division games in 1981-82 before moving to Hartlepool United on a free transfer.
Later in his career, he was once again reunited with manager John McGrath, this time at Chester, where he finished his playing career in 1985.
Our thoughts are with Andy's family and friends at this difficult time.
