Match Preview: Cambridge United

Port Vale face a tough test tomorrow when they travel to top of the league, Cambridge United, as they aim to build on Saturday’s victory over Salford City at Vale Park. You can find all of the key information regarding the game, below.

Fixture: Cambridge United vs Port Vale

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Date: Tuesday 20th October

Kick-Off: 7:00 pm

Venue: Abbey Stadium

Referee: Trevor Kettle

Port Vale

Manager: John Askey

Form: WDLLW

Top Goal Scorer: Mark Cullen (2 goals)

The Valiants will be hoping they can continue where they left off following Saturday’s victory over Salford, where Cristian Montano’s goal helped the Valiants get back to winning ways in a 1-0 victory.

Another clean sheet for the Valiants means that Vale still boast the strongest defensive record in the league, having only conceded two goals all season, keeping four clean sheets so far, and John Askey will certainly be hoping we can keep that record up at Cambridge on Tuesday evening.

John Askey has no new injury concerns ahead of our visit to the Abbey Stadium, though Zak Mills and James Gibbons are unavailable for selection through injury.

Cambridge United

Manager: Mark Bonner

Form: DWWWW

Top Goal Scorer: Paul Mullin (7 goals)

Mark Bonner will be delighted with the way his side have started their league campaign after four victories and just one defeat leaves them top of the early season table.

The form of Paul Mullin, who has already scored seven goals this season, has been critical to the success of the The U’s, and our defence will have to continue our early season stability to get a result from the Abbey Stadium on Tuesday.

One to watch: Paul Mullin

The 25-year old striker from Litherland has enjoyed an exceptional start to the season, and will be eager to showcase his talents against a strong Valiants defence.

The U’s top-scorer played for both Everton and Liverpool during his youth career, before spells at Huddersfield Town, Morecambe, Swindon Town and Tranmere Rovers led to him joining Cambridge on a six-month loan in January of this year.

He impressed during his short loan spell with the club, and he convinced the U’s to buy him outright from Tranmere in July.

Mullin will be hoping to continue his good run of form and will certainly provide a good test for the Vale backline.
