The Valiants have the chance to get back to winning ways in the league this weekend, when they travel to Boundary Park to take on Oldham Athletic on Saturday. With the game just a few hours away, we look back on two classic matches that the Vale have played against the Latics.
League Two, Boundary Park, Saturday 20th October 2018: Oldham Athletic 0-1 Port Vale
Port Vale ended their run of three straight League Two defeats with a battling victory at Oldham.
After being hammered 6-2 at home by Lincoln the previous week, the Valiants produced a staunch defensive effort and took all three points through Tom Pope's first-half penalty.
Both sides created early chances, with Callum Lang firing inches off target for Oldham and home goalkeeper Daniel Iversen making a brilliant point-blank save from Nathan Smith.
Vale's breakthrough came after 37 minutes when former Vale defender Peter Clarke barged Luke Hannant to the ground as the pair chased a hopeful ball over the top.
From the resulting spot-kick, Pope sent Iversen the wrong way.
Oldham felt they should have had a penalty for Smith's challenge on Lang, while Dan Gardner went close to equalising just after the restart.

Division Four, Boundary Park, Saturday 13th September 1969: Oldham Athletic 2-3 Port Vale
Vale produced a stirring comeback to maintain their position as the unbeaten leaders of Division Four with a hard-fought victory at Oldham.
13 coachloads of fans made the trip to cheer the league leaders on but were given a jolt after just three minutes when the home side took the lead, John Colquhoun scoring with an effort from 20 yards
Oldham dominated proceedings for the remainder of the half but Vale manager Gordon Lee was confident his team could still win and told them so in the interval.
They took him at his word and only ten seconds of the second half had elapsed when Bobby Gough lashed in the equaliser from fully 35 yards.
This was the cue for Vale dominate proceedings and they soon took the lead when a Ken Wookey cross was parried by the ‘keeper for Gordon Logan to fire home on the half volley.
When leading scorer John James headed home a John Green cross that seemed to kill the game.
Oldham weren’t finished though and former Stoke player Keith Bebbington made it 3-2 from the penalty spot, but the Vale held on to take maximum points.
This game was part way through a 19-game unbeaten run for the Vale, still a club record, and they went on to finish in fourth place to gain promotion to Division Three.
Oldham finished 19th but went on to gain promotion the following season.
