Port Vale Football Club are delighted to announce that defender Nathan Smith has signed a two-year contract extension with the football club.
A product of our very own academy, the 24-year-old turned professional at Vale in June 2014, and became a regular in the Vale side during the 2016-17 season, via loan spells at Stafford Rangers and Torquay United.
Since making his league debut for Port Vale in 2016, he has been a regular in the Valiants defence, and has become a fans favourite.
The 2019/20 campaign was another successful season for Smith, with a number of top-class defensive performances as well as chipping in with 5 goals in the league campaign, cementing his place as one of the top defenders in League Two.
“I’m really happy to get the deal over the line, I’m happy to still be here and we’re ready to finish what we started last year,” said the Valiants defender.
“The club has come on leaps and bounds in the last twelve months, I can see where it is going and I want to be part of that.”
“I’ve not been part of a successful football team yet, but I’m hoping to be part of one next year and I’m sure the club is heading in the right direction, with the signings and the people behind the steering wheel.”
Smith who sits on 199 appearances is eager to reach a new milestone.
“I’ve got unfinished business to get to 200 (appearances), and unfinished business to get in the play-offs.”
Throughout his career, Smith has made 238 senior appearances, scoring 13 goals in that time.
Smith’s new deal keeps him tied to the club until June 2022.
