Special visit paid to 100th Junior Valiant

Port Vale Football Club chair Carol Shanahan and Boomer were on hand today to make a special delivery to 4-year-old Nancy.

Nancy, who was photographed early last week in her new 2020/21 home shirt, became the 100th member of Port Vale Foundation’s Junior Valiant scheme.

Grandad Paul, who also takes part in Port Vale’s walking footballers scheme said: “Nancy is a very special little girl, she spent over 6 months in Birmingham Children’s Hospital when she was 6 months old after suffering heart failure.

"She was given very little chance of survival after suffering two strokes and then she underwent two heart surgeries inside a few months.

"Thanks to the amazing doctors at the hospital, she was fitted with a mechanical valve and is now approaching her 4th birthday.

"The Vale are Nancy's favourite topic of discussion and seeing Boomer and Carol today on our doorstep has put a smile on her face that won’t ever disappear!”

Head of Community, Tom Sherratt said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome Nancy to the Junior Valiant scheme, after hearing about her story from her Grandad we knew we had to go the extra mile to welcome her to the scheme.

We’ll be keeping in touch with Nancy and her family and we hope she can make her way to Vale Park very soon to watch the first team in action!
