Classic Encounters: Macclesfield Town

Tomorrow the Valiants will aim to repeat their success from earlier this campaign when travelling to Moss Rose, and pick up their first league away win of the season against Macclesfield Town. With the short trip just a day away, we look back on two classic matches that the Vale have played against the Silkmen at Moss Rose.

League 2, Moss Rose, Wednesday 25th February 2009: Macclesfield Town 0-2 Port Vale

The Vale were sat 17th in the league when made their first ever visit to Macclesfield Town’s Moss Rose for a league game.

New striker Kevin Gall made his Vale debut having arrived on loan from Carlisle United, and helped the Valiants dominate the game against a struggling Macclesfield side that had only taken one point from their previous five fixtures.

The game looked set to end up as a goalless draw, but in the 85th minute Vale took the lead, Pakistani international midfielder Adnan Ahmed, on loan from Tranmere, unleashed a 35-yard strike that former Vale goalkeeper Johnny Brain fumbled over the line.

Things would get even better for the Vale as Louis Dodds was substituted onto the field and after just 60 seconds, doubled the lead as he drilled the ball into the roof of the net goal in the last minute to guarantee all three points.
