Scott Brown remained upbeat after yesterday's match, and admitted he was happy to get another point on the board as well as a clean sheet.
The Vale keeper made numerous vital saves yesterday afternoon to deny Crawley an opener, and he admits that it’s nice to make a few saves, but the result was the most important thing.
Brown stresses that it wasn’t the side’s prettiest performance of the campaign, yet the Valiants did manage to create a few chances of their own and could have even won it at the end.
The 34-year-old emphasised that the Vale were hoping to pick up all three points yesterday afternoon, but after the second-half, insists he’s happy with the point.
“Yeah it’s always nice to make a few saves, but more importantly we got the result, and times last year you’re making saves and you’re losing two or three nil, so it’s nice to come here and get a result at the end of it.
“Even on a day like today where we’ve not played particularly great, we’ve still created three or four really good chances, got runners from midfield and around Popey [Tom Pope] and got pace outside.
“Like I say, you always want more clean sheets and more points, we came here for three points unfortunately we couldn’t get them, but we’ll take a point."
It’s just over a 400-mile round trip to Crawley, yet 241 Vale fans made the long journey yesterday afternoon, and Brown had a lot of praise for the travelling Valiants.
Following that, Vale have already sold over 5,700 tickets for their FA Cup third round trip to Manchester City next month, and the keeper admits the fans are making the club a fantastic place to be at the moment.
The Valiants return to Vale Park next weekend where they welcome Cheltenham Town, and Brown is hoping they can give the fans an early Christmas present by getting yet another three points.
“The fans have travelled a long, long way today so it’s nice to repay them with at least a point.
"We want to send the fans home happy before Christmas, so it will be nice to get a result back at Vale Park next week.
“It’s fantastic, fantastic support like they always have been, I know they’ve got a lot of outgoings with Christmas and everything, and Man City tickets, it’s just a fantastic place to be at the minute."
