Neil Aspin admits that he could make a number of changes for Saturday’s League Two tie with Carlisle United.
After safety was secured last week in the 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town, the gaffer hints that he might make several changes to the squad for the penultimate home game of the season.
Speaking to today’s local media, Aspin joked that he has been sleeping better since confirmation was confirmed that The Valiants will be playing in the Football League next term.
He said: “It’s been a long struggle – especially since January.
“You do have sleepless nights because after every game, you always think about it if it hasn’t gone particularly well. It can make sleeping rather difficult and you always think about football because you have a lot to do and a lot to sort out.
“Although the season is coming to an end, it doesn’t end for the manager as you have to be busy and pro-active ready for next season.”
With just two games to go, the gaffer may be swapping a few players around to keep the team active and encourage squad rotation.
“I’m in a position where I can look a few different things because we are safe,” said Aspin.
“I have a chance to do some swapping so I might do that and go with a different team that has played the last couple of games.
“Now is a good time as we have room for some manoeuvre and we may make a couple of changes to the team that played against Mansfield.”
The gaffer also admits that he doesn’t know what to expect when Keith Curle’s men travel to Burslem as they are known to be unpredictable throughout the season.
He said: “To be honest, I don’t know what to expect.
“I have no idea what formation they will play as they tend to change it often. Like us, they don’t have anything to play for so they could also try new players and try anything so we will continue to concentrate on our team.
“We need to get our formation right and sort ourselves out before we look at Carlisle on the day.”
