DKMS Blood Cancer - Donor Recruitment Event

DKMS Blood Cancer - Donor Recruitment Event

Port Vale FC have teamed up with blood cancer charity DKMS in a bid to register fans as potential lifesavers.

At the home game against Swindon on 28 October a match-day donor registration event will be held in the Fanzone. It will give supporters attending the opportunity to register as a blood stem cell donor and potentially save the life of someone with a blood cancer.

We are delighted to be supporting DKMS. Registering as a potential blood stem cell donor only takes a few minutes but it is so important for those seeking a matching blood stem cell donor. Please take the time to swab and register, as it could be one of the most important things you ever do. Supporters can become potential life savers by taking the time before the game to swab and register with the charity at our next home match on 28th October against Swindon.

A blood stem cell donation is the only chance of survival for many blood cancer patients. Sadly, many patients will not find a matching donor. This isn’t because a match doesn’t exist, it’s simply because there aren’t enough people registered as donors. That is why DKMS works to increase the size and diversity of the blood stem cell registry.

Anyone in the UK aged between 17 and 55 and in general good health can register with DKMS. To register, the charity asks potential blood stem cell donors to give consent and a two minute swab sample from the inside of their cheek. If you have missed the match-day event before the game you can register online at www.dkms.org.uk
