With Vale hosting Yeovil Town in the FA Cup Second Round on Saturday afternoon, Cristian Montano is eager to reach the next stage of the competition.
During his time at Oldham Athletic, he missed out on ties against Liverpool and Everton as the Latics reached the fifth round in 2013 due to injury.
Now using that as motivation, Montano is hopeful that he and his teammates can put in a good performance at the weekend to book a place in the draw for the third round.
“With Oldham we got to the third round, but I was injured so I was unable to play in the game which was against Liverpool,” he said.
“We managed to beat them and reach the fourth round where we played Everton, but I was injured for that one as well.
“Hopefully we can get through to the third round and get a big game, then I hope I can stay free of injury and get to experience what it would be like to play in that stage.”
The draw for that stage of the competition can be very exciting for supporters as their team could potentially face one of the biggest clubs in the country.
Montano also admits that the players get the same buzz of anticipation, and that’s something he is looking forward to should Vale beat Yeovil.
He said: “It’s great because you can be drawn against teams you’ll never face in the league so we will be looking for a good performance on Saturday to win.
“If that happens and we get the result we want, it will be exciting for the team and the supporters knowing we could go to a big stadium.”
