Dave Kelly has admitted that he can’t wait to get going in his brand-new role at Port Vale as The Valiants prepare for pre-season.
“Ned”, will be supporting manager Michael Brown and Chris Morgan for the 2017/18 League Two campaign as the club aim for a quick return to League One.Kelly has a range of experience under his belt where he collected 26 caps for his country and over 600 appearances. After starting off his professional playing career with Walsall, the Birmingham-born striker has played for likes of Newcastle United, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers where he became prolific at all clubs.
Kelly, has assisted at clubs such as Derby, Nottingham Forest, Walsall and most recently – Scunthorpe United.
Following his appointment, Kelly said that he was pleased to have the opportunity at Vale Park and hopes that the club can bounce back into League One.
“I’m really pleased to be here”, said Kelly.
“I’m really disappointed that we couldn’t keep them up as a group but the new gaffer has some good ideas and hopefully we can assist Michael in any possible way.
“We’re looking to rebuild the squad, get some exciting players in and have a really good go.”
After being involved in several competitions throughout his career, which included promotions and relegations, Kelly knows what assets you must have to compete in League Two.
He added: “You need desire, passion, commitment, work rate and a never say die attitude.
“The league itself has some really good teams in there, some really good teams that have a good history but we will be looking to take them on and get out that league as soon as possible.”
