Sky Bet League One Round-Up

Even though league Leaders Sheffield United were out of action, they still hold at least an eight-point lead over the rest of the league with second place Fleetwood losing to Bolton.

Fleetwood’s 18-match unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday as Bolton Wanderers produced a dominant performance in their 4-2 win at Highbury Stadium, mainly thanks to an Adam Le Fondre brace.

Vale themselves came out of their fixture as winners after they beat Swindon Town 3-2 at Vale Park. Chris Eagles got the opening goal for the home side, whilst a brace from Striker JJ Hooper finished off the game.

Bradford City closed the gap on the automatic promotion spots as the side produced two goals in just five minutes against bottom of the table Coventry City, with Alex Jones and Jordy Hiwula getting the goals.

Gillingham produced the shock result of the weekend as they managed to overcome a two-goal deficit against promotion chasers Scunthorpe United by scoring three penalties in nine minutes, to win 3-2.

Down in 7th, Southend United also received a shock as Bristol Rovers took the lead in their game after just 60 seconds after a strike from striker Billy Bodin, and Rory Gaffney added a second on the half hour mark.

A goal on the hour mark managed to hold Walsall back to just a point over the weekend as Tony Watt’s driven strike cancelled out Simeon Jackson’s first half opener as the game finished 1-1 at the Valley.

Oxford United have now moved within six points of the Sky Bet League One play-off spots as they came out 2-1 winners against Peterborough United, even with a last-minute goal from Boro’s Craig Mackail-Smith.

Milton Keynes Dons’ Ben Reeves managed to score a last-minute goal as more drama surrounds Rochdale, extending their winless streak to 10-matches now with the 2-2 draw at Stadium mk.

Northampton Town left the scoring late on at AFC Wimbledon as Matty Taylor had to keep his cool from the penalty spot to earn his side all three points at Kingsmeadow after an end-to-end contest.

Shrewsbury Town made another leap towards safety in the league after they draw 1-1 away from home at Chesterfield, thanks to a very early goal from their West Bromwich Albion loanee, Tyler Roberts.

The only goalless draw of the day took place, yet again, at Boundary Park as Oldham Athletic played out their game against Bury, meaning that they are now only two points ahead of Port Vale and the drop zone.
