Neil Aspin has revealed that he could make several changes tonight from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town, with Port Vale hosting Shrewsbury Town in the Checkatrade Trophy.
The Valiants host League One high-flyers Shrewsbury at Vale Park this evening in hope of reaching the next round of the Checkatrade Trophy.
After the weekend’s 1-1 draw in the FA Cup, the gaffer says he already knows his team ahead of the game as it could feature some changes, including familiar faces in Ben Whitfield and Rob Lainton.
“I know what team I’m going to play,” he said.
“We will make some changes but we can only make a few. I have decided to bring Rob into the squad for tonight, he has only trained for one day but I think it’ll benefit him if I included him. He’s not ready to start as he will be on the bench but he gives us that extra bit of experience in that department.
“Ben has been training on the grass and he’s trained enough to take part in a game for 20 minutes in tonight’s game so that is what he will do.
“If he comes through that okay, then we have the opportunity to play him for longer on Saturday.”
The gaffer is expecting a tough game against the Shrews, who is managed by someone who is well known to Aspin in the form of Paul Hurst.
He said: “I know Paul really well, he’s done a great job.
“I’m really pleased for him because he’s had a good career in non-league football with Grimsby Town.
“Shrewsbury are in a great position in the league, so we will expect a tough game, we will make a few changes where possible.”
