Sam Kelly Reflects On Stevenage

Port Vale booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup this past weekend, as they saw off Stevenage at Vale Park.

A first half goal from Remie Streete was enough to see Vale be in the hat for the next round.

It was a difficult game for the Valiants, despite Boro being in a league below, they put up a good fight and went close to drawing level in injury time.

Midfielder Sam Kelly, believes the game could’ve been a banana skin for Vale, but is pleased that they over come the opposition.

He said: “These game can be a banana skin, everyone expects you to win and if you don’t it’s lose lose and they we’re really putting it to us and they had a decent chance at the end and we’re lucky to get through.

“It’s vital that we got through and now we’re going to get together as a team. We’ve stuck together and it was a tough end to the game but, we’ve got through and got ourselves into the hat.”

Kelly started his second game in a row for the first time this season and believed that him and his team mates did enough to get through.

“I think at times we played some good stuff; we had to work hard because these games are always tough.

“Even when they’re coming from a lower league they’re always going to test us but we’re in the next round and that’s’ the important thing.”
