Although it wasn’t in the greatest of circumstances this past weekend, defender Sam Hart scored his first goal for Vale.
Not only was it his first goal for the Valiants it was also his first career goal, having only made his EFL debut this season.
The youngster currently on loan from Liverpool has enjoyed a good run in the first team since his arrival.
Born and bred in Bolton, Hart grew up supporting the Trotters and spoke of what it meant for him to score this weekend.
He said: “It was a great feeling but due to circumstances I couldn’t really celebrate but I was really happy.
“To score away at Bolton, where I’ve always wanted to score, against my boyhood club, it was a really nice moment for me.
“I came sneaking in at the back post and that’s where you get them opportunities when you work hard and to score was perfect for me.”
It was a disappointing weekend, after Vale went down to three early goals in the first 16 minutes.
However, this weekend, the Valiants have the chance to make amends when they entertain Stevenage and Hart believe they need to ‘put things right’.
“The game could’ve been over after 20 minutes, but we dug in and we made sure we didn’t concede anymore and tried to fight back.
“I think there was a lack of intent and with a game this Saturday we need to put that right and get on with it.”
