Bruno Ribeiro Reflects On Visit To The Valley

Port Vale fell to another away defeat last Saturday, this time at the hands of Charlton Athletic despite dominating the majority of the match.

Vale travelled to The Valley with hopes of a win, and the Valiants began well. However, two first half gaols for the Addicks was enough to separate the two teams at full-time.

Bruno Ribeiro spoke exclusively to Valiant PlayerHD after the game about his team’s performance: “I am very happy with the players, but disappointed with the result because we were better than Charlton today but weren’t able to score goals, and Charlton were.

The Portuguese-man continued: “This is the difference, they have national team strikers who only need one chance to score, and we weren’t able to do so. This is football.”

Ribeiro was clear on what his team needs to do in order to win games in this league: “At home we are fantastic, we have only lost once there this season. Away from home we need to score goals, and to cut out the mistakes. We need to concentrate more away from home, and score. If you don’t score you don’t win.”

Despite the defeat, Vale only sit two points off the play-off places, and the 41-year old has his sights set on the top six: “It is a very close league. You win one game and you’re in the top six, you lose a game and you’re out of the top six. We came here today and tried to play, we had a good attitude, which we need to have for every game, to try to win and get back into the top six.”

Vale have a real chance to put some more points on the board this Tuesday when Oldham Athletic travel to Burslem.

Oldham sit third from bottom with only one win in the past four, form that Ribeiro will be hoping to capitalise on: “I will put out the best possible team as usual, and we have a few days to recover. We will prepare the squad for the game on Tuesday and try and make our supporters happy.”
