Ben Purkiss On Targets For This Season

Take a look at what the defender had to say after interview with Valiant PlayerHD.

With the 2016/17 Sky Bet League One season set to get underway tomorrow, there is a lot of excitement around Port Vale.

After a summer of transition, which has seen several fresh faces from across the continent arrive at Vale Park, everyone is looking forward to the first game of the season.

One man who has been give another responsibility this season, is defender Ben Purkiss, who has been named one of three club captains.

Purkiss spoke to Valiant PlayerHD and said that despite the huge turn-around that has taken place over the summer, Port Vale’s ambitions are still as strong as ever.

He said: “As a squad we have been set a goal of top six by Christmas, I understand, so that’s what we’re going to be looking to do.

“We aim to be competitive in every game, and we need to approach every game the same way and give 100%.

“If we do that we have a good chance of succeeding, and success at this level is getting into those play-off places.”

The turnover in players is not the only change to have happened over the summer.

Purkiss was named one of the three captains by new manager Bruno Ribeiro and will share the honour with Anthony Grant and Jak Alnwick, something that he looks on with much satisfaction.

“It’s been good, obviously. I feel it’s been reward for a really good season I felt I had last year.

“Its up to us to work together, as a three and a whole team to make sure everybody is in the best position possible to win games of football.”
