O’Connor: ‘I’m Disappointed In Myself For Missing The Penalty’

Michael O’Connor said his knee felt better than expected against Peterborough United but was disappointed not to have converted what could have been a winning penalty.

The 28-year-old made his return to senior action following an injury which he picked up in pre-season against Bolton Wanderers.

The midfielder had made an appearance for the reserves against Stoke City and suffered a slight setback but he was back to his usual self against Graham Westley’s side on Saturday.

Speaking to Valiant PlayerHD after the match, O’Connor described how good it felt to finally be on the pitch again.

“It’s great to be back out there again, playing,” he said. “I felt better than I thought I would be but about 70 or 75 minutes my legs started to go a bit.

“I was just happy to be back out there again.”

Rob Page’s side won a penalty early in the second half and O’Connor stepped up to take it but the midfielder’s effort was well saved by Jak Alnwick’s brother, Ben.

“I’m disappointed in myself for missing the penalty,” he commented. “If I score that we’re two-nil ahead, it’s a good gap to have so I’m disappointed.”
