McGivern On His Chances Of Going To Euro 2016

Ryan McGivern would love to be part of the Northern Ireland squad that travels to France next summer but insists he must concentrate on playing games for Port Vale first.

Northern Ireland qualified for the 2016 European Championships with a win over Greece last night in Belfast.

McGivern, meanwhile, made his first appearance of the season for the Valiants on Tuesday night in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Blackpool.

The defender admitted he’d relish the prospect of representing his country at a major tournament but says he must nail down a regular place at club level beforehand.

“That would be brilliant to be fair,” he told Valiant PlayerHD. “I can’t look too far ahead in terms of obviously I’ve not been involved here too much this season.

“I need to first of all try and get game time here and make the most of it, get myself in the team and then if that was the case further down the line it’d be a bonus.

“But I’m not getting too far ahead of myself, I need to get games here first before I can think about getting back in the international team.”
