Striker Insists Anything Is Possible In League One
Tom Pope believes a decent run of results can help Port Vale achieve a good position in the league this season, starting with Saturday’s trip to Walsall.
The Valiants currently sit 16th after 30 games and the striker is certain that because of the tightness of the league, anything is possible.
Speaking to the assembled press, he said: “Anything can happen. It’s still that tight. I know we’ve had a few bad results but everything’s still there to be played for, whether you’re looking up or down.
“If you can get that consistency and get on a good run, hopefully starting on Saturday, then anything is still open for us.”
Pope also thinks that the team can use last season’s win at Banks's Stadium as a benchmark going into the weekend’s game.
“They’re not the most physical of sides but they’re very good in and around the box," he added.
"They’ve got sharp players and keep the ball well but I think we showed last year when we won 2-0, if we can get after them and rough them up a little bit we can combat that.”
The 29-year-old was also full of praise for strike partner Achille Campion, who bagged his first goal for the club last weekend against Bradford City, noting the improvement in the Frenchman’s game since he joined the club.
“He’s improved a lot and he’s come on leaps and bounds.” he said. “I think we saw in training in the first few weeks that his all round play was a continental style.
"His hold up play has certainly improved. Pagey has really worked with him. He’s drilled it into him that he needed to get hold of the ball, be more dependable and in the last few weeks he’s certainly shown he can be a handful as well as scoring goals.”
