Vale are Training Hard to Turn it Around

Vale can't dwell on recent results and need to train hard to change their fortunes around according to Rob Page.

Assistant Manager Page has admitted that after Vales’ third defeat in a row on Saturday against Chesterfield, they will be looking to change there fortunes around on the training pitch this week with no competitive midweek games scheduled. A number of fringe players did, however play in a friendly against Chester FC yesterday afternoon.

Nevertheless, he felt that no one at the club can dwell on it too much as they need to get going again and work hard to change it by getting a win at Peterborough United on Saturday.

Speaking to the press on Monday Page said: “We came in Monday morning, we smiled and got on with our job, and we’re working hard to put things right.

“You can’t dwell on what’s happened, there’s nothing you can do about it now apart from work hard to make sure certain aspects that disappointed us on Saturday don’t happen again.

“Football’s not as easy as that, but providing we see that everyone is putting the effort in and working to achieve what we want we’ll be happy.

“That’s because we’ll keep doing it until we see what we want on a match day. We’d go from Monday to Friday, if we had to until we get it right.”

Page feels that if this is done correctly then there is no reason they can’t go to Peterborough on Saturday and get something out of the game, especially because the league is so open.

“I think Peterborough are going to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, they’ve shown over the seasons that they are capable of achieving their goals.

“It’s going to be a tough test for us, but every game in this division is going to be tough for whatever reason.

“We’ll take the challenge; we’re working hard this week to prepare for it and will look forward to it.”

Page admits that on their day, the squad Vale has can compete with anyone but he and the rest of the staff are frustrated with the results that the team are coming out with over recent games.

“That’s what’s frustrating from the staffs point of view at the moment, I keep on about it, but we go to Doncaster Rovers and give a great performance with the same group of players.

“For some reason I don’t think we’ve replicated that since, our performances are falling slightly short of the boundaries we set ourselves individually and collectively as a team.

“That’s what’s unsatisfying from the coaches’ point of view because we see a group of players that can perform, but for whatever reason at the moment haven’t done.

“It’s about us now building them back up to where they were and going into another big game for us on Saturday.”
