Slew: It's A Marathon, Not A Sprint

Jordan Slew feels that the season is a marathon, not a sprint and there is a long way to go.

Recent loan signing Jordan Slew, who got his first goal for the club during Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of league leaders Peterborough United, believes that although it’s a good feeling to get his scoring underway early in his Vale career, the fact it was during a loss is disappointing.

He also feels that no one should write the squad off just yet as the squad are confident they can turn their form around sooner rather than later.

Talking after the match, Jordan said: “It’s nice to get a goal, but obviously it’s put a bit of a downer on it that we’ve lost the game.

“It’s only six games in, so we have a long way to go yet. It’s a marathon not a sprint, we’re still confident, we’re going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment, but we know we’ll pick it up.

“It’s always difficult to get out of it, but we work hard in training and in games so we have to keep going and hopefully the luck will turn our way.

“All the players here are quality enough and in the dressing room the spirits are still high. We’re just going through a bit of a rough time at the moment, which every team has.”

Jordan rubbished the talk of Vale going into last Saturday’s game against Peterborough looking for a point, with their eyes firmly on this weekend’s important clash against local rivals Crewe Alexandra.

He explained: “We go to every game looking for a win, we don’t go to any ground and play for a point.

“We go to wherever we’re playing, with every intention of winning. Peterborough are a very good team and worthy winners today.”

Jordan feels that being back with Micky Adams will help get the best out of him, having already shown that he is ready to score for Vale.

He said: “He’s already done that from years ago, so he knows what I’m like and I know what he’s like. I’m very happy to be back working with him.

“This is a lifeline really, obviously I’ve had a difficult few years, but I’m ready to just kick on now.”
