McGivern: We can prove doubters wrong

Ryan McGivern believes Vale can prove doubters wrong at Peterborough.

Ryan McGivern feels that Vale’s recent performance have been frustrating, especially because the team haven’t been playing terrible. But with little expectation on their shoulders they will be able to go there and hopefully put in a good performance to get the win.

Talking to the press yesterday, Ryan McGivern said: “It was bitterly disappointing not getting anything from the last three games, especially because we had chances but as a team we just need to keep doing the things that we’ve been doing well and cut out the errors that have cost us goals.

“As a player it’s massively frustrating when you are playing well, but you can’t get a goal then you concede. It sucks the life out of you.

“In terms of the Notts County game we could have been there till 10 o’clock and we wouldn’t have scored. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a game like it.

“But you’ve got to move on and look forward to the next game, which is Peterborough on Saturday.

“I know a lot of people won’t be giving us chance to go there and get anything, but we’ve already proved this season against Doncaster, that we can play well.

“We put in a convincing performance there and came away with the win, we’ll be looking to get a similar sort of performance together and get a good result on Saturday.”

On their next opposition who currently sit at the top of the table after a great start to the season, McGivern feels that if they can keep their strong attacking threat at bay there is no reason they can’t come away with a result.

He explained: “Obviously they’ve already scored an awful lot of goal this season, and we’re well aware of that.

“Every season they lose their top striker and manage to pluck another one out who will score a bag for them.

“We’ll have to be on our top game to try and keep them quiet on Saturday. We need to impose ourselves on them, we’re not just going there to stop them from scoring, but we want to get all three points. Hopefully with a good performance we’ll be able to do that.”
