Lines: Solidarity is Key

Chris Lines feels solidarity is key to getting out of Vale's recent bad form

Chris Lines believes that no one should start panicking just yet after Vale’s run of five defeats in a row, because there are plenty of games to go in the season and he know the team are more than good enough.

Tonight’s opposition Bristol City are currently on a run of three-wins in a row and sit top of the table after seven games, but Chris feels if Vale concentrate on their own performance they can get something out of the game

Talking ahead of tonight’s clash, Lines said: “You don’t want to get into a downward spiral of bad results, but we’re only seven games in so lets not all start panicking and start bringing negativity into the place.

“We had a good start so we’ve already shown already what we can do, it’s not like we’re in a situation where we need five or six new players to make things improve.

“We’ve got good players, probably better players than we had last year, because of that we’re going to score goals, so if we cut out the basic errors we’ll get out of it.

“Everyone’s expecting them to be a decent side, but we’ve got to worry about us and make sure we perform.

“It doesn’t really matter that they’re top of the league. They haven’t lost obviously and fair play to them for doing that, but with only seven games gone it doesn’t really matter what the league table says.”

After a lot of criticism from the fans about the whole teams performances in recent weeks, Chris feels that will drive the team to improve and prove to everyone it’s not as bad as it seems.

He explained: “Fans are fans, if you’re winning they’ll cheer, if you’re losing they’ll boo. No matter who you play for, all fans are the same, that’s why they’re there to keep you on your toes.

“I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone’s making out, it’s nowhere near in fact. We’ve got the players, the manager and the staff to change it.

“It’s just the fact of cutting the errors out. The Gaffer can’t stand in the box and mark people from corners.

“It’s the lads that are losing their men, they’ve taken the responsibility and he can’t do anything about that.

“If we can get a result tonight, everyone will relax and we’ll roll onto Saturday for another home game.

“It’s down to the lads to take responsibility and make sure they aren’t making errors to let in goals.”
