Previous meetings Vale and Fleetwood have only met on two occasion before this weekend, each during the Lancashire outfit’s first season in the Football League, which was the season we finished up being promoted to League One. In their last meeting, goals from David Ball and Alan Goodall saw the Cod Army leave Vale Park with all three points, knocking Vale off the top of the League Two table at the same time. They were exacting revenge for Vale’s 5-2 win at the Highbury Stadium three months earlier, in the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
