Gaffer looks ahead to Sunday's game

Vale travel to Northampton on Sunday to take on Coventry City and Micky Adasm admits he would much rather the game be played at the Richo Arena.

He said: “I have been on record in saying that Coventry City shouldn’t be playing at Northampton. The fans have made their feelings known by staying away.

“It will be a bit of a strange atmosphere and it will be strange playing Coventry there. I would really have loved to have gone to the Richo, I had some good memories there.

“It is a game we must approach in a professional manner and get on with it whatever the gate.

“At the beginning of the season they had the points deduction that they had to make up, they did that quite quickly.

“They looked as though they had got two in-form strikers in Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson. They were causing teams big problems and then the sticky patch has coincided with Leon Clarke being sold to Wolves and Callum Wilson being out injured.

“They have not quite replicated the goals for tally, but Callum is back fit and he is a real handful. He has been one of the finds of the season.

“He has real pace that stretches teams and causes teams problems and he is certainly one we have to keep an eye on on Sunday.”

Coventry haven’t been in the best of form of late, but then again that is something that could have been said about Vale until their last two games.

A win over Carlisle United then a good performance, even though it ended in defeat, against Leytn Orient has given everyone renewed optimism going into the final eleven fixtures of the season.

Micky said: “I don’t like losing games of football, but you can accept as a football manager defeats when your team goes out and has a real go and show real enthusiasm for the game, as we did the other night.

“It didn’t quite happen for us in front of goal, but I think if we show that sort of determination and really put on a determined performance like we did the other night, we are capable of getting a result there.

“I have got lots of thought, but I will keep everybody guessing again what the line-up is going to be and whether it changes or not.

“I see the players on a day to day basis and I pick a team, not for Micky Adams, but for Port Vale to try and win a game of football. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don’t.

“We saw some decent performances on Tuesday night. Players came off the bench and looked sharp and looked a little bit more refreshed after a period not playing, so we will pick a side accordingly.”
