Micky puzzled as to why Saturday's opponents are struggling in bottom spot

Micky Adams is expecting a tough game at Stevenage on Saturday against a side who are obviously doing everything they can to avoid the drop.

Graham Westley’s side currently occupy bottom place in League One, but the Vale boss watched them in action on Wednesday and is puzzled as to why they are where they are.

He said: “I watched Stevenage at Coventry on Wednesday night and thought they played particularly well. They don’t look to me as though they are a bottom of the league side that is struggling for confidence.

“They put on a committed performance, as you would expect from a Graham Westley team and they will feel unlucky that they lost the game.

“They are a big, strong, physical team and they can cause you problems and it is a real surprise they they are a where they are.

“I didn’t see a side that plays the long-ball game against Coventry, they adopted a three-five-two system.

“They are big and strong, that’s for sure, they are the biggest side I have seen in the league, but I don’t want to decry that, everybody has their own methods and ideas about how they can be successful at this level.

“But we have certainly got to stand up and be counted, particularly at free kicks and corners, and we all know our recent history in that regard.

“So we will have to pick a side accordingly, but we have got to get back on track and try and get the disappointment about Tuesday night out of our systems.

“The only way we can do that is by going down to Stevenage and being nice and positive and try and get a positive result.”
