Chris Neal says the season is far from over

Vale ‘keeper Chris Neal says there is still everything to play for between now and the end of the season, with nothing decided at either end of the table just yet.

Vale’s main priority is to make sure they don’t slip right down the table, but as Neal acknowledges, the play-offs are not completely out of sight.

He says: “We have got two home games coming up now that we need to pick up points from, we have been stuck on forty three points for a while now and this is a big game for us on Saturday.

“We need to get probably two or three more wins to make sure we stay in this league next year and hopefully we can start that on Saturday.

“We are still in tenth and we had this at a similar stage last season when we had a bit of a sticky patch, but we have all got to dig in together, the staff and the players and everyone around the club and the results will come again.

“It is just that kind of little sticky patch in the season which we haven’t had up to now, but we need to get out of that as quick as we can.

“There are a lot of clubs that are being inconsistent at the moment. Everyone can beat everyone every weekend.

“We are still looking above us and seeing if we can pick up enough points to try and sneak up into the play-offs with a good run.

“Towards the end of the season there are a lot of games to go and a lot of points to pick up still.

“The main thing for us is to get over fifty points and I think that will be a successful season. If we can put a little run together we can look up the table rather than behind us.

“There are going to be a lot of important games between now and the end of the season and we have got to start this weekend against Carlisle.”
