The tournament was an entertaining affair with many shocks along the way. It also created some new world stars especially those who are now being linked with Premier League clubs, including Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina, Ecuador striker Enner Valencia, Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, German midfielder Sami Khedira and many other big names who may be playing in England next season after impressing on the biggest stage in world football.
The eventual winner of the World Cup was Germany after beating South American side Argentina in the final after a late extra-time goal by rising star Mario Gotze.
