Williamson aims for a regular starting place
Following his red card at Plymouth on Tuesday night, Chris Lines will now be suspended for one game and according to team mate Ben Williamson he will be a big miss.
Lines was somewhat controversially red-carded in giving away the spot kick which could have seen the home side level the scores at 3-3 at Home park.
Thankfully ‘keeper Chris Neal saved the penalty and the rest, as they say, is history, as Vale played out the game with ten men, held on to their lead and secured a home tie against Brighton.
Williamson said: “He has been massive for us this season in loads of different ways, obviously his set-pieces and his energy and he is a great player to have in the dressing room.
“He will be a massive miss but I am sure we will have players who can come in and do a job and when he comes back he will be even better.”
Williamson played his part at Home Park of course, coming off the bench and almost immediately grabbing a goal to level the scores, the platform needed to go on and win the game.
The 25-year-old is now hoping to force his way into the starting line-up and earn himself a regular place in the side, and he knows if he can get the goals he will go a long way to doing just that.
“When the gaffer tells you to go on you want to score every time because you want to be showing that you are banging on the door to try and get into the team,
“It was nice to come on and I scored quickly, so did my job. It was nice to get back on the scoresheet and help the team.
“You just want to score as many goals as you can as a striker and hopefully I can push on and maybe get into double figures.”
