Micky looking forward to being the underdogs

Micky Adams sees no reason why Vale can’t cause a Cup upset on Saturday against one of his former clubs and quite likes the fact that Vale are seen by many as the underdogs.

He said: “I have always embraced the idea that our backs are against the wall. We have done that many times at this football club and it has never fazed and I think we should embrace it on Saturday.

“The fact is Brighton & Hove Albion are having a great season, their ambitions are quite lofty in terms of the ambitions of their chairman, Tony Bloom, and their supporters.

“They have got a magnificent stadium now and I think that it is onwards and upwards for them, so they will want to come here and show that they are a Championship club.

“We are up against it in terms of personnel in certain areas, but I would never write us of, if people do then that will work in our favour.

“I would like to think when teams face us they don’t look forward to it, they know they are going to get a hard game.”

Would it mean anything special to be able to knock one of his old clubs out of the FA Cup or would it be just another team?

“I am employed by Port Vale and my job is to get wins for Port Vale, so it doesn’t matter who I have got to face in front of me, it could be anybody, so I will be doing my best to do exactly that.

“It means a lot to me, I can’t deny that. I have had the best of times at Brighton, I delivered a championship for them and left them in similar circumstances that I had here.

left them to go to Leicester City and they went on to win the championship that year as well, so I left them in a good state. “They were in the top two when I

“The second time around didn’t work out particularly well, but if there was a highlight the second time it was knocking Manchester City out of a cup competition.

“With all their money and everything they came down to the Withdean Stadium, Mark Hughes was the manager, and we knocked them out of the League Cup.

“That shows you that anything can be done and anything can be achieved if you set your mind to it, and on that day Doug Loft and Tommy Fraser both played and Lofty will have great memories of it.

“There is nothing to fear, it is a cup competition and anything can happen and we are certainly determined to get through if we possibly can.”
