A fan's view of things Port Vale

I always thought Burslem and the Vale should bang the drum a bit about having such a well known fan of the club. When I was working at the Vale in 1996, fans of the singer would often turn up at the ground unannounced for a look around. One girl had come from Melbourne (Australia not Derbyshire) and asked at reception if she could see him.
I told her that he was not here at the time, but I showed her around the club behind the scenes, in the Directors’ Box etc. and I also took her down to the Red Lion where Robbie lived in the 1970’s. When we got back to the car park at the Vale she suddenly let out a scream as I was telling passers by that I never touched her. She had seen a car park space with the name R.Williams on it and draped herself all over it, insisting I took loads of photos of her so that she could show her friends.
I did, and didn’t have the heart to tell her our chief scout was called RAY Williams and it was his space! She wouldn’t have believed me anyway.
