Partnerships come good

Gaffer happy with performances within the team

Vale boss Micky Adams was obviously a happy man after Vale got back on track last night and it wasn’t just the three points and a clean sheet that made him smile.

Several partnerships all over the pitch seemed to gel and it something no doubt he will be keen to develop between now and the end of the season.

He said: “I am happy with the result and the performance in general. We looked at the conditions and the pitch and picked a side that we thought would dig in.

“We worked hard at a few things in training that we were disappointed with on Saturday, because let’s face it, we did a lot of things wrong on Saturday individually, collectively and a little bit tactically I suppose, but we got it right tonight.

“We played Daniel Jones on that left hand side to cut out the avenue to their wide players and to deliver crosses, and he has done that tonight.

“In the second half I think we can be forgiven a little bit. People might say that we have sat back a bit but that’s only nerves for you.

“We saw what happened to us on Saturday, we probably got a bit nervous but we got that second goal and it calmed us down a bit to a degree, but we got crosses into the box tonight, which was important.

“I think we rode our luck at times and I think their ‘keeper did as well, but we are always grateful for a clean sheet, it means that we have worked hard.

“I was pleased with little partnerships that developed tonight – the two centre halves I thought were excellent and Hugill and Pope were excellent and the full backs and the wide players were excellent.

“We got some combination play out there tonight and I am delighted for everybody.”
