Grewe hints at changes in the Vale line-up

Mark Grew says the fans can expect changes to the side for Saturday’s derby game against Crewe Alexandra as Vale look to get back to winning ways.

Although Vale have tightened up defensively, it seems to have created problems at the other end, with Vale failing to score in each of their last two matches.

Grew said: “When you lose a game of football the principles go out of the window where we keep the same team and it has given us food for thought.

“To be more positive against Crewe on Saturday we need to put more balls into the box, but the pressure is all on Crewe on Saturday.

“A draw is no good anymore, Sheffield United winning on Wednesday night has put Crewe back into the bottom four and there is a lot of pressure on them to win football matches.

“I thought it would be an open game last week against Shrewsbury but they played a back five, which didn’t make it so open, but Crewe have got to come and start winning football matches.

“We are getting towards the final run in of the season and you don’t want to be in that bottom three or four and obviously with Sheffield United winning that has put added pressure on them.

“They are back in there again, so we are top dogs at the minute because we beat them at Crewe and I am sure they will be trying to turn the tables.

“Local derbies are always great games to watch and there is rarely more than one goal between us, but we want to get back to winning ways after getting beat against Bradford.

“Sure enough, they will want to get the three points as well, so it does have the recipe of a good game of football.

“We have said all along we don’t want our season to fizzle out now, but the main thing about it is we want to win football matches.

“Every game we go into we will try to win. We go to Wolves a week on Saturday and we will go there trying to win a football match.”
