Chris Birchall believes that even though Vale have started the season well compared to tonight’s opponents Oldham Athletic, who are yet to win this season, they can’t take anything for granted in this league.
Therefore, the team will go out with a winning mentality looking to get something out of the game.
Birchall said: “I think every game in this league will be tight. On their day, anyone can beat anyone and if you’re not performing you will get beaten, Oldham will be no different.
“It will be a tough place to go, but when you’re just coming off a win like we have, you want to play games as quick as you can.
“We will be going there going for the win, and because of that I don’t think we’ll line-up defensively, it’s about going out and trying to do the same as we did against Doncaster.
“I think confidence is key with any team, and obviously three games in without a win, they’ll be low of confidence.
“They’ve lost at home as well, so they might be nervous the first ten minutes and that might be where we try and nick an early goal.”
The feeling coming out of the dressing room is brilliant at the moment, and Birchall admits that is why the team have started so well.
He also admits that the squad are out to prove the bookmakers wrong.
He continued: “Our lads are confident, and that’s a massive thing in football.
“The bookies aren’t always right, putting us third favourites for relegation, but the lads batted that off straight away.
“We know how good we are as a squad and that on any given day we can play well, so it’s not a surprise to us that we’re doing well.”
