Boss happy with clean sheet

Boss happy with clean sheet

And obviously with the three points too

Obviously delighted by Vale’s first away win of the season, Micky Adams said his first aim was to get the much needed clean sheet away from home and to build on it.

The Vale boss said: “A win cheers everybody up, breeds confidence. Gives players a little bit of belief and sends the supporters home happy and that’s what the game is all about. Any win at this level is a welcome win and I thought we deserved that.

“We wanted to be nice and tight, we set off with the same lads who I thought did well against Bury in midweek and we looked solid.

“We had a couple of chances in the first half. Popey got in a couple of times and also Ben Williamson looked particularly sharp.

“When the game developed in the second half we wanted to go and win it. We put three more attacking players on the pitch and we tried our best to win the game.

“I was particularly pleased with the three lads that came on, I thought they all had an impact on the game.

“Kaid Mohamed looked sharp, and was more like why I brought him to the club, so I was pleased with the impact they made but also pleased with the clean sheet.

“We have done a lot of talking this week and a lot of work, particularly with the back four and the one thing that we set out to do was to keep a clean sheet, and we have done that.

“We will have stiffer tests I am sure, but Carlisle have struggled particularly at home in terms of getting wins and it was important for both teams.

“We wanted an away clean sheet and I though the four lads at the back did all the right things at all the right times.

“I thought we were lucky late on in the second half when the fellow blazed over the bar, but it wasn’t as if it was created from open play, it came from a set piece.

“In general I was pleased with our efforts, having that will and determination to keep a clean sheet and is you keep clean sheets, with the attacking players we have got, we have always got a chance of winning games, which we saw at the end.

With four goals in his last three games, striker Tom Pope is showing the form that he displayed last season when he finished top scorer in the land and the manager has never doubted the goals will come again.

He said: “It has been well documented that Tom had a wrist injury that was affecting his play and we could all see that in him, but today he was outstanding.

“He gave the two central defenders a real torrid time, as did Ben, then Tommo came on in the second half and had an impact as well.

the pleasing thing is, we have created another chance for him, he has stuck it away and he is back to his old self and that is all we ever wanted for him. “Tom is getting his rewards, but

“You don’t become a bad player and I have got faith that if you get enough decent balls into him he will score goals, and he has shown that again today.”
