Micky praises debutant

Hugill plays his part in superb Vale win

“It was a terrific performance and I think it was a deserved win. We looked solid and sharp in all departments. We changed the team around and go our just rewards.

“In our two previous games, against Peterborough and Sheffield United, as a group we had worked so hard with no reward.

“Even on Saturday the work rate and commitment from everybody was there to be seen. We are a group of honest people who try their best at all times.

up a little bit. “But I felt, coming to Crawley off the back off that, and the journey, I wanted to freshen it

“We sent Jordan Hugill out to Gateshead to gain some valuable experience – he’s got goals in him and I took a chance on him and the boy didn’t let us down, that’s for sure.

I felt the front two on Saturday, Tom Pope and Lee Hughes, worked exceptionally hard with no real penetration and tonight I wanted a bit more penetration and we got that.

“Ben Williamson stretched them out and Jordan Hugill isn’t slow, he stretched them out as well and used his competitiveness, his size and spirit to do that and we got further up the pitch and subsequently got our goals and it was an all round terrific performance.

Although Jordan Hugill didn’t get the debut goal his performance perhaps deserved, he had an otherwise near perfect debut,

Adams said: “You have got to say well done to George Foster, our chief scout, who spotted his potential playing non-league.

“We had him with us last season and the one thing he struggled with was his fitness. Pre=season was a struggle for him, he’s a big boy and he’s not used to a professional pre-season.

“But he’s one of those lads who never gives up – you ask him to pull out of things and he doesn’t want to do that,

“So as I said before, we sent him out to Gateshead and he looks as if he has become a man there and we watched him score five goals there, which is no mean feat in the Conference.

“He scored some good goals up there and I don’t think it was much of a amble throwing him in tonight. Some people might have been surprised by the selection but I think I was justified in picking him tonight.”
