The whole team must take responsibility
After conceding five goals at the County Ground at the weekend, the easiest thing in the world would be to point the finger at the goalkeeper.
Chris Neal accepts that will sometimes happen, but at the same time knows he can’t let that affect him.
He will continue to act in a professional manner, knowing he has to forget all about the last match and look forward to the next.
He says: “That is just something you have to accept as a goalkeeper. Things didn’t go as well as we all thought they would do, but we have to put all that behind us now and look forward to the FA Cup game we have got on Monday.
“We have had a look at the goals and the performance with the manager and obviously we are all disappointed, but we have got to put that behind us now and move on.
“I am loving it playing in League One. We have shown as a team that we can match most teams in this league.
“If you look at the budgets some of the teams have got, the likes of Peterborough and Wolverhampton Wanderers, we have shown we can match them, so we have got nothing to be afraid of. We have got the ability to have a good season and push on.
“We pride ourselves in keeping clean sheets and we haven’t picked up as many of them as we should have done – that is something we have discussed with the manager this week and we will be working on that in the coming weeks.
“It is not just the back four who takes the responsibility, it is the whole team and the manager has said that it starts from the front, but we will be working on that.
“It is basically about the desire to prevent the ball from going into the net and we have got to get back to that – we have kept a few clean sheets this year and we come off the pitch absolutely buzzing.
“We need to get back to that feeling and hopefully we can do that on Monday in our next game.”
